Principles of integrated farming

Integrated farming is a global approach of farming which meets the criteria for a sustainable development of agriculture. It takes into account at the same time objectives of producers, expectations of consumers and respect for the environment.

This method is based on the knowledge of environment and the adaptation of production techniques to the peculiarities of each production plot.

The main objectives are to insure:

Integrated farming is a very dynamic method at the centre of numerous reflections. Its fast development made inevitable the implementation of a framework and a legal protection, both for the loyalty towards consumers and for the recognition of the work done by farmers. The French Codex concerning integrated farming defines a set of common principles and practices that will enable farmers and growers to achieve these goals through the promotion and development of integrated farming.

The debate also moves at the European level with the will to harmonise the various national methods and to propose an European standard. Six national associations participate in the development of integrated farming in their country and put in common their experiences and their means within the frame of EISA organisation (European Initiative for Sustainable Development in Agriculture).
