Geographical information systems (GIS)

The geographical information systems (GIS) count among the most interesting and most powerful decision-making tools in the precision agriculture field. GIS is a data-processing tool enabling represent and analyse all the things which exist on ground as all the events attached to it. GIS offers all the abilities of the data bases (such as requests and statistical analyses) and this, through visualization. These specific capacities make GIS a single tool, accessible to a very large audience and give a very large variety of applications.

The major stakes which we face today (environment, demography, public health...) have close connections with geography... the traceability of the agricultural produce !

Many other fields such as the research and development for new markets, study of the impact of home building, territory planning, network management, follow-up of vehicles in real time, civil protection are also directly concerned with the power of the GIS to create charts, to integrate any information type, for a better visualization the various scenariis, better presenting the ideas and better apprehending of the possible solutions.
